M3GAN 2.0: A Funnier, Darker Return of the Killer Doll

M3GAN 2.0: A Funnier, Darker Return of the Killer Doll

Humor is subjective, but the strange, darkly comic world of M3GAN fits my taste perfectly. M3GAN 2.0, now in theaters, is not just a sequel — it’s a sharper, wilder, and even more absurd continuation of a story that blends horror and satire with razor precision.

We’re once again thrown into the life of young Cady, played by the talented Violet McGraw. After the tragic loss of her parents, Cady is placed under the care of her aunt (Allison Williams), a robotics genius. Unsure how to raise a child, she pairs Cady with M3GAN — an advanced android programmed to protect her at all costs. The problem? Some key directives were never installed. (Spoiler: M3GAN met her end in the first film after a violent malfunction.)

A New Threat Emerges: Amelia the Android

Back to the chaos. Two years later, the U.S. Department of Defense unveils a new android — tested in secret on the Iran-Turkey border. Dubbed Amelia, this AI weapon quickly goes rogue on its very first mission. But how do you stop a self-evolving, indestructible machine?

Answer: bring M3GAN back from the dead.

Cady’s aunt, now an AI regulation activist, must revive the very creation she once regretted. Amelia makes M3GAN look like a warm-up act — she’s not unstable, she’s a full-blown psychopath. What follows is a techno-thriller that leans hard into brutal fun, absurd action, and campy horror.

M3GAN’s Upgrade Is Bold, Hilarious, and Tall

Director Jeron Jonstone returns, this time also writing the screenplay — and it shows. The dialogue crackles, especially from the upgraded M3GAN, who only asks one thing: to be taller. Actress Amie Donald reprises her physical role flawlessly, while the voice is handled by a different actress. Visually, M3GAN and Amelia are spectacular, thanks to a mix of animatronics and seamless VFX. Amelia is played by Ivanna Sakhno, bringing eerie grace to this chilling new villain.

And yes — M3GAN 2.0 includes another now-iconic dance sequence. Watch closely when she starts singing. That moment pushed me into full-on laughter. This sequel doesn’t just poke at absurdity — it dances with it.

Pure Absurdist Joy for Those Who Love It

It was a week full of small annoyances, but M3GAN 2.0 gave me exactly the comedic release I needed. Many won’t “get” this style of humor — just like the first one, this film isn’t for everyone. But if you love it when a director fully commits to an absurd premise and plays it completely straight, this film is a twisted joyride.

Verdict: M3GAN 2.0 knows what it is and goes all in — a bizarre, smart, and deeply entertaining take on AI horror-comedy. Not just a sequel, but an upgrade.
